PROGRAM
VasiPred 1.0 (2020) by A.A. Wawrykowicz (GWN Systems Inc.) with C.J.
Cieszewski. It has a C# Windows Forms interface (VasiPred.exe) over the C++
computational library VasiModel.dll. VasiPred.exe, VasiModel.dll, and
VasiPred.exe.config are the files that the original 2020 VasiPred installer
(VasiPredSetup 1.0.0) installs.

FILES
VasiPred.exe - Windows program
VasiModel.dll - computational library
VasiPred.exe.config - .NET Framework configuration
VASIPRED.PAR - active Alberta binary coefficients
VASIPRED.LIM - active Alberta site index and age limits
VASIPRED.DEF - active Alberta text coefficients
ParameterSets\Alberta\VASIPRED.PAR - Alberta binary coefficients
ParameterSets\Alberta\VASIPRED.LIM - Alberta limits
ParameterSets\Alberta\VASIPRED.DEF - Alberta text coefficients
ParameterSets\Saskatchewan\VASIPRED.PAR - Saskatchewan coefficients
ParameterSets\Saskatchewan\VASIPRED.LIM - Saskatchewan limits
ParameterSets\Saskatchewan\VASIPRED.DEF - Saskatchewan text coefficients

REQUIREMENTS
The program needs 64-bit Windows and the .NET Framework 4.5 or later. This
framework is part of current Windows versions such as Windows 10 and 11. The
Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable for Visual Studio 2015-2022 (x64) is also
required. It is available from Microsoft:
https://aka.ms/vs/17/release/vc_redist.x64.exe

INSTALLATION
The program needs no installer.

1. Download VasiPred_1.0.zip from the article's page:
   https://mcfns.com/index.php/Journal/article/view/17.4
Before unzipping, right-click it in Windows. Select Properties, check
Unblock, and click OK. This prevents Windows from blocking the program.

2. Unzip it into a folder in which you can write files, e.g., C:\VasiPred. Do
not use Program Files. The program writes saved predictions and maintenance
   files in its own folder.

3. Install the Visual C++ Redistributable if it is not installed yet.

4. Start VasiPred.exe from the extracted VasiPred_1.0 folder, e.g., by
double-clicking it. The Console tab then lists the four Alberta species. If
it lists none, the program did not find VASIPRED.PAR and VASIPRED.LIM in
   its working folder.

QUICK CHECK
Select Input data. Use Lodgepole Pine, reference height 12 m, reference age
50, height measurement error 0.10 m, and prediction age 100. Select Accept
input, then Prediction table. The results should include SI @ 50 yrs.bh. =
12.00 m and Height @ 100 yr = 17.80 m. At age 100 the Min and Max values are
17.39 and 18.20 m.

PARAMETER SETS
The Alberta set is the active set in the program folder. It has lodgepole
pine, white spruce, black spruce, and trembling aspen. Both sets are also in
the ParameterSets folder.

To use the Saskatchewan set, copy the three files from
ParameterSets\Saskatchewan into the program folder, replacing the Alberta
files. Then restart the program. The files in ParameterSets\Alberta restore
the Alberta set.

Heights are total heights measured from the ground. Ages are breast-height
ages. See Section 3.3 of the paper. The Alberta site index limits are total
heights at breast-height age 50. They are the published calibration values
above breast height plus 1.3 m.

The Saskatchewan set has eleven species. It comes from an unpublished 1995
report of the first author to the Canada-Saskatchewan Partnership Agreement in
Forestry. It is for exploratory use.

SAVED PREDICTIONS
Saved predictions are written as VASIxx00.DAT in the program folder. The xx is
the uppercase species code. View prediction files opens a saved file in a
read-only viewer.

KNOWN LIMITATIONS
The curves and bands use a decadal grid from age 0 to 150. Requested
prediction ages and heights are computed directly. The graph axes are fixed.
There is no built-in printing or graph export. If a coefficient or height
combination leaves the site index limits, the band fails silently and falls
back to the minimum and maximum site index curves. The save name is always
VASIxx00.DAT. A different name entered in the Save dialog is not used.

UNINSTALL
To remove the program, delete its folder. The program writes nothing outside
it.
